Somatic Therapy

Somatic Therapy

Some things do not shift just because you understand them. Your mind may know the relationship is safe, the crisis is over, or the old role is not yours anymore. Your body may still brace like it has not gotten the memo.

When the body reacts before you do

Somatic therapy pays attention to what your nervous system is already saying: the shallow breath, the tight chest, the collapse, the urge to leave, the freeze that shows up before words do. These responses are not random. They are intelligent adaptations that once helped you get through something.

How somatic work fits with talk therapy

We do not treat the body as separate from the story. We work with both. The conversation helps us understand what happened and what it means. The body helps us notice what is still happening now, in real time, and gives us a way to create safety that insight alone sometimes cannot provide.

Who somatic therapy can help

Somatic work can be especially helpful for anxiety, relational trauma, chronic stress, people-pleasing, shutdown, and the feeling that you are always bracing even when nothing is visibly wrong. The goal is not to force calm. It is to help your system learn that it has more options than survival.
